Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Mona Lisa' reduced and remixed down into 140 exact circles of color. A picture about the illusion of familiarity. Makes little sense close up. Makes every sense from the other side of the room. (Inspired by the thumbnails on the Louvre website - Sept 2009)

What Cube?
What Cube?
from Discovery Album
An old project. Made a plaster cube, and rounded it with a file until it was a sphere. Tedious! Carved a detailed geometric pattern into its surface. Rolled it around for a little while...
Now it sits in a secret location in the woods waiting for a kid to stumble upon it and believe they discovered a treasure. That's the true beauty behind this piece.
Being plaster it may have just absorbed into the earth. That is fine also.

Man Takes Photo Everyday For...
Man Takes Photo Everyday For... Barely a month
About five years ago I had this idea to take photos of myself in the same spot every day for as long as I could. Apparently about a thousand other people were doing the same thing for a lot longer. I was bored after a month and was sick of seeing my face. This image is about all I have to show for it. Really just looks like a lengthy shutter speed.
A couple years ago I started seeing some of the compilations others have worked on for 6/8+ years. That takes a lot of persistence, but they had their minutes of fame.

So apparently a few people commented that my Kool-Aid Dispenser Design Concept was sexually suggestive. I really don't see the connection. It was supposed to be an innocent, fun idea for kids and their Kool-Aid stands. This is the age we live in--where people automatically associate a tube-shaped liquid dispenser and "soft ball" technology as phallic symbols. Perverts.
On to my product design of the day for Designs We've Seen (a lot) series: Ball Sacks that hang from the back of trucks. (plus some added bonuses: racing strips, flames, John Deere bumber sticker, dear head decal, bullet hole decals, and Harley Davidson vinyl.)

New Light Bulbs
Based upon The Sketchpad's 04/02/11 article:
New Light Bulbs
It's happening...
Repost:
I've been thinking...
Now that CFLs are starting to phase out the incandescent light bulb, what is going to become of some of the most iconic and overused pieces of clipart imagery? Artists will now have to make do with reshaping the outer spirals of the fluorescents into new creative messages , instead of relying on the easy-to-manipulate incandescent inner filament coils. The thinking genius will have to change a bit too, but this is no thinking genius...

Netflix Price Increase
NETFLIX = NET PROFIT logo - wdsiemer ii |
Rabble, rabble, rabble...
Nobody likes price increases. Gas prices keep taking a hike. Cell phone bills are outrageous. Restaurants increase the prices on their menu. It seems my DirecTV bill has continually grown more expensive, and I get less of the channels I'd prefer to watch. Etc. Etc. Et Cetera.
Really in the scheme of things, Netflix raising prices of their all-inclusive DVD and streaming service from $9.99 to $7.99+7.99 isn't all that bad considering I used to pay over $5 for a few day rental from BLOCKBUSTER years ago.
As a customer, I'm not happy considering I am not getting more streaming movie options, but I understand their move from a business perspective. If another company has better prices for the services Netflix offers then maybe that company will do to Netflix what it did to BLOCKBUSTER. However, the reality is Netflix has a fairly good grasp on the market for the time-being.
I'll probably cancel my service just because I rarely use Netflix. I think I have had the same DVD out for 6 months now, and I don't stream enough to justify the price hike. However, true movie lovers shouldn't have anything to complain about. Whatever, whatever.
Some Netflix customers threaten to quit over price increases
