The "Painter of Light" (January 19, 1958 – April 6, 2012
Know my friend Ken will be saddened by this news. He owned a couple of his paintings, and enjoyed visiting his gallery in Tennessee.

Jackson Pollock
Today is Jackson Pollock's hundredth birthday. I expected the Google Doodle to be related, but they already did one for his 97th.

Edward Hopper
Another artist who has stood out to me since my childhood is Edward Hopper. His oil paintings have always made me feel a great sense of isolation.

Alexa Meade photos imitate paintings
Alexa Meade photos imitate paintings
Artist Alexa Meade, who lives and works in Washington, D.C., creates photographs that could easily be mistaken for paintings. However, as she explains, "Instead of painting a picture on a two dimensional canvas, I paint directly on top of my subjects in three dimensional space. The photographs of the painted scenes look like flat paintings without the assistance of Photoshop or digital manipulation."

Inspirational Imitation - Van Gogh 4/22/11
I posted an inspirational piece by Vincent Van Gogh the other week, Undergrowth With Two Figures. This is a copy I experimented with of his oil painting, Still Life With Four Jugs. On the left is my painting, on the right is my reference sheet. The color/depth was difficult to imitate because of the printout. I'm no painter!

High Contrast Self-Portrait Painting
The overall painting is a bit flat and unimpressive, however this was more of an experiment with high contrasting warm tones and layered textures within the dry blood.
