New Microsoft Logo

I actually like Microsoft's new logos, and think they work. The Microsoft logo is clean, simple, modern-metro, friendly, soft, and lends itself to many applications. It plays on its old "window" logo, but eliminates the flag-like warp and gradients. They create brand recognition by four colored rectangles, which speaks volumes. It reminds me of a quick thought I had about the Mickey Mouse logo being nothing but 3 black circles.

The new Windows 8 platform, like the logo, is cleaner, simplified, and uses squares in much of its interface design. Its design is competing with Apple's as much as the companies are fighting for each other's audience. The new Microsoft store showcases some of the implementations of its new elements that I believe will age a lot better than any of their previous logo designs.

Natural Bridge State Park (Journal)

Natural Bridge State Park
(Journal)

I went here a few times a while back, but I thought I'd pay another visit with renewed perspective. I had great weather, met some nice people, and received a good workout by hiking all the trails.

Here are some textures I found along the way...

Sit Down for Religious Freedom

Sit Down For Religious Freedom

I'm being sarcastic (I don't want to be scorned)--as I believe we should have some religious freedom as long as it doesn't intrude on personal freedoms. Religion as an institution has been notorious for trying to create an imbalance of human rights. The Catholic Church is against same-sex relations (human freedom), contraceptives (human freedom), women priests (human rights), and abortion (human freedom).

This isn't to say I don't believe in some of its teachings. I was raised Catholic, attended private schools, and went to mass every Sunday. Religion taught me a lot of positive values; however, I do not stand up when personal freedoms are prohibited. Religion taught me God accepts every one the way they are, but the people in charge of religion tell me this isn't true, and we all know the people in charge of religion have just as many flaws as the next person.

I am not gay, I am not a woman, and I don't believe in abortion, but I am accepting of these people. I see "Protect Religious Freedom" signs in front of churches, and want to put a sign next to it that reads "Protect Individual Freedom." No more hypocrisy. I think someday the church will modernize to be more accepting of its followers, and will look back on some of its teachings as prehistoric as it has done in the past... God bless.

Journal - Parasailing

Journal - Parasailing
Aug. 3, 2012

I have lost all flexibility in my joints. My legs hurt so bad having to sit on the banana boat with my knees bent/feet back. Otherwise, I had a a great time parasailing in South Carolina at Ocean Watersports. There was a storm in the distance so it was pretty cool seeing the lightning from the Atlantic.
